Impeach the President

First seen via Scrivenings:

According to Frank Tiggelaar, a Dutch reader of Laura Rozen's War and Piece, the open-air food distribution center in front of which Bush appeared for the cameras while in New Orleans was DISMANTLED as soon as the president and the attendant cameras had left. The crew of German television station ZDF witnessed the event and reported it on German TV. On the same site, video and a transcript of German coverage of something similar from the president's stop in Biloxi. (Anything to add from German-speaking pixies would be much appreciated!)

Let me take a deep breath and say that again. After the president had left, German TV reports that they PACKED UP THE RELIEF SUPPLIES and TOOK THEM AWAY from the victims of Katrina.

Because, when you're listing your priorities, saving people's lives comes in a distant second to scoring political points with a good photo opportunity.

If this is true, there is only one possible response. Impeach!

Update: According to Rivka at Respectful of Otters, the Potemkin food distribution rumor is just that: a rumor. The episode described above did not take place. She provides links to a translation of the German news coverage, which does indeed describe the Biloxi trip, but makes no mention of New Orleans.
